カリフォルニア州立大学教授（哲学）。これまでに七冊の本を出版。また、倫理学・生命倫理学・医療倫理学、正義、社会哲学、美学、法学、フェミニズム、障碍学に関する、百本以上の論文・単行本の一部分を執筆。2002には、Eva Kittay[フェミニズム理論の理論家]とともに、「正義、平等、そして障碍という挑戦」という、NEH[National Endowment for the Humanities: 国立人文学基金] 夏季セミナーを開く。 The California Faculty Association[カリフォルニア教員組合]は、彼女が、障碍を持つ人々にとって高等教育をより近づきやすいものにしたことを称え、平等権利賞を授与した。
彼女は現在、医療の配分における・また保険制度における予測的な遺伝子検査の役割を分析する、二つの国家計画にたずさわっている。
