優れた研究で有名。アトキンソン教授が弱冠26歳のときに仕上げた論文 “On the Measurement of Inequality” は不平等指標の研究における古典である。また、
Stiglitz教授とともに書き上げたLectures on Public Economicsは公共経済学における古典的名著であり、未だに読まれるべきところが多くある。
