△How are we to respond to the framing "People with disabilities are unhappy" vs. "No, they are happy"?

△1)The claim that they are unhappy: Made by some bioethicists such as Peter Singer [1993]

Marhta Nussbaum[2006]
△2) In recent years there have also been some who are more compassionate. One such political philosopher is Martha Nussbaum [2006].
→ Consideration→Conclusion: Most such assertions cannot be affirmed
→ We had better be cautious when employing the arguments of bioethics, political philosophy, and other such fields.

△Why are they wrong?

Singer:
△1) Singer, who says it is a given that it is better not to have a "disability":
① He conflates "inability" and "pain"
② He argues on the assumption that the cost of fixing the disability in question is zero.

 2)Nussbaum
 △2) Nussbaum
① She endorses "supplementation" to compensate for disability, but in doing so assumes that becoming able to do something "oneself" through supplementation is a good thing.
② She asserts that it is better not to have an intellectual disability (that it is better to fix or cure it), but does not present any basis for this claim.

△ How should we think instead?

 △Ⅰ: 1) ① → Multiple factors (inability / difference / death / pain / harmfulness) related to disability/illness should be considered separately (Tateiwa [2018a]).
~ A historical examination of how each of these has been addressed is needed (Tateiwa [2018b]).

△Ⅱ: 1) ② → In most cases, something is gained and something is lost→ Both must be looked at (fixing or curing need not necessarily be rejected, but in most cases the cost of doing so to the person in question has been ignored~this is what has essentially been criticized by the movement of people with disabilities/disability studies).

△Ⅲ: We must consider whom the plusses and minuses are for ~ it cannot (fundamentally) be said that being unable to do something or being different are minuses for the person in question.
~2) ②: The possibility that an intellectual disability is not a bad thing for the person who has it has not been considered.

△Significance for disability studies/the movement of people with disabilities

△It is correct to react against being rejected or negated, but that does not necessarily mean affirmation is required.
(Are disabled sports, the Paralympics, and other such initiatives being used for this kind of unnecessary affirmation? - This must be considered)

△ We should not put too much faith in academic inquiry.
There are cases in which the sound, commonsensical understanding that "a person's happiness or unhappiness is not something we can say much about" is correct.

△Disability need not be thought of as something that possesses or should possess a predefined denotation. In most cases we should understanding disability as involving mainly "inability" and "difference" among the five factors listed above, and on this basis we should ask why it is brought out socially and whether or not this is necessary.
(For example, it is mistaken to assert that "the social model does not take impairment seriously enough" while citing "pain" and "difference" - "pain" and "difference" are not impairment.)

△ If a society is a proper society the assertion "I become able to do something"(cf. 2) ②) is of course important, but (if it is a proper society) it must have the perspective of "It's OK if I can't do it, as long as someone else can."
In this sense the disability studies that comes from the West can be said to have a Western bias. Non-Western - I don't think this is limited to "East Asia"- thought and movements are important in this regard (cf. Tateiwa [1997-2013] [2018a]).
