It is not exceedingly difficult to understand the contents of Disciline and Punish: The Birth of Prison (Surveiller et Punir: la naissance de la prison, by Michel Foucault 1975). But What are described about modern society in this book have not eximined sufficiently yet. By following the whole of this book and by comparing and contrasting with orthodox perspectives, we will investigate how hedepicts about modern society differntly from traditional views. If it done carefully, we will be able to confirm the place of Foucault, and get suggestions
about how we should think about this society.
