Study Group on Ethics of Birth

Projects Led by Graduate Students at Ars Vivendi in Academic Year 2008

Japanese Page

■Aims

The aim of this group is to examine and conduct research on issues surrounding the birth of human beings (inability to give birth, being born/not born, giving birth/not giving birth, raising children) from the perspective of ethics with a focus on the relationship between these issues and society as a whole. In particular, regarding issues of intervention and “selection of life” that have become pressing problems within contemporary medicine and social welfare and systems and policies to ensure the acceptance, survival and adequate upbringing of children by their parents and society, this group aims to deepen our understanding and construct much needed new approaches while examining concrete issues and problems that have arisen.
