Sex Work 2022

last update: 20221127

qHookers Against Hardshipr
gyDescriptionzHookers Against Hardship is a grassroots campaign of sex worker-led organisations, aiming to raise awareness of the specific experiences of sex workers during, and because of, the cost of living crisis. The spiralling cost of living means that more people, especially women and mothers, will be pushed into sex work; and current sex workers will be facing worse financial hardship. Wefre working to try to alleviate sex workersf financial hardship in the current crisis; and to lobby our elected politicians to combat the poverty, criminalisation, and danger faced by sex workers.h

Miren, Frankie and Alison Rumfitt (Introduction by Morgan M Page), 2022, Morbid Obsessions, London: Cipher Press.
gyIntroductionzThe histories of the trans and sex worker rights movements are closely intertwined and, particularly in the UK, itfs rare to find a carceral feminist who isnft also a rabid transphobe. What does it mean to write as part of a community that is under attack? Where, in fiction, is the line between exploring harmful ideology and humanising it?h

sHookers in the House of the Lord: The Reuniont
Date: October 21, 2022
Location: Holy Cross Church [London]
Organised and presented by the English Collective of Prostitutes / Holy Cross
gyDescriptionzThis autumn marks 40 years since the English Collective of Prostitutes (ECP) occupied the Church of the Holy Cross in the red-light area of Kingfs Cross, London, for 12 days to protest gpolice illegality and racismh against sex workers. The occupation took inspiration from sex workers who in 1975 occupied churches across France following a number of brutal murders, rapes and other violence which the police did nothing about while arresting and fining women instead.bTo mark this anniversary and as part of the Bloomsbury Festival, the Holy Cross Church has invited the ECP back to the Church to reflect on the significance of the occupation then and today with others who were there at the time \ local residents, the church and the police. The event, Hookers in the House of the Lord \ The Reunion, is modelled on the Radio 4 series.h
