ŸsWanderwomen: Tales of Transgression in a Bordered Worldt
December 7, 2022, 19:00 - 20:00
Lighthouse ^ Online Event
Featured Speakers: Alexandra Blanchard & Alex Howlett
https://lighthousebookshop.com/events/wanderwomen-tales-of-transgression-in-a-bordered-world
gyDescriptionzGovernmentsf decisions usually impact most on the lives of women and people of marginalised genders\yet their stories often go unheard. Wander Women unites tales of different journeys around the world and shines light on the boundaries and constraints\both physical and invisible, political and social\that mould the lives of cis women, trans people and gender-nonconforming individuals.h
ŸsAhora es Cuando: Encuentro Feminista Transfronterizot
iFundación Rosa Luxemburgo^2022”N8ŒŽj
https://rosalux-ba.org/2022/08/08/ahora-es-cuando/
gyEpisode NoteszIn this conversation from March 2022, reproductive justice practitioner, organizer, researcher, and educator Jalessah Jackson speaks about decolonial feminism, a framework that forges material feminist solidarities through an examination of the relationship between gender and colonialism. We discuss the origins of this intellectual and organizing framework, its relationship to bourgeois and carceral feminisms, material international solidarity work, and the role of scholar-activism. Get into it!h

gyIntroductionzAs movements to defund and divest from policing and invest in community safety expand in the wake of the 2020 Uprisings, abolitionist organizers are increasingly grappling with questions around the role of the state in abolitionist futures, including:mcnh

gyQuot.zWhilst more and more people come together to stop people being boarded onto planes, we must also unite to stop them being placed through the trauma of detention and deportation threats in the first place. I will therefore not discuss these issues any further in this section. Let me just resolve a simple misunderstanding. As we saw in the previous section, the "welfare state" has been criticized on the one hand for excessive intervention and on the other for destroying direct interaction and relationships. And these criticisms are not contradictory. If distribution within autonomous relationships is not possible, or if it is accepted that certain obligations exist regarding distribution, there is no other subject to whom these responsibilities can be ascribed except the state (assuming we have no choice but to presume the existence of national borders). Also, and this is often overlooked, movement towards private relationships is not based on the idea of weakening intervention. On the contrary, intervention regarding the qualities and abilities of individuals ought to be more prevalent within private relationships. If this is indeed the case, it can be concluded that the only option left to us is the construction of a "welfare state" that is anti-interventionist, a welfare state in which distribution is conducted mechanically and everything else is left up to the individual31.
