We would like to express our hearty sympathy with people who have been visited by the great East Japan earthquake and the Fukushima nuclear plant accident. We have been enriching its related page, "The Great East Japan Earthquake" within the website of arsvi.com.
As we briefly reported in "
Ars Vivendi E-mail Magazine No.44 (March 15, 2011)", the big earthquake hit eastern Japan. Although the earthquake did not hit Kyoto, where we are, it has caused large amounts of damage.
We, Global COE Program Ars Vivendi, have been enriching the contents of "
Disasters and People with Disabilities or Illness" and related pages (mainly in Japanese).
This page provides English information especially on disasters and people with disabilities or illness, and on the support you can provide from overseas for such people.

Japan NGO Earthquake Relief and Recovery Fund
http://www.jcie.org/earthquake
The Japan Center for International Exchange (JCIE/USA) is partnering with the Center for Public Resources Development (CPRD) to launch the Japan NGO Earthquake Relief and Recovery Fund. Half of the funds raised will go directly to the Center for Public Resources Developmentfs gGive Oneh initiative, which raises funds for leading Japanese organizations that are working on the ground to provide immediate disaster relief. The remaining 50 percent will be used to establish a separate fund to support Japanese NGOs engaged in long-term reconstruction efforts, which will be critical in the months and years ahead.

DIANE DfARRIGO: "Back in 1971, Stephen Hanauer of the Atomic Energy Commission did a memo to the Atomic Energy Commission outlining serious problems with the design of the kind of reactors that are operating, and are failing and melting, in Japan right now... Now, the problems that were raised in those earlier memos are what led to the disaster here in Japan. And I wanted to point out that the United States has, since those memos were written and then ignored or rejected, licensed and has operating 23 of this type of nuclear reactor."
