When families became unable to take care of their family member(s) with disabilities at home in the past, those disabled people had no choice but to stay at institutions. In those days, however, there were some people with severe disabilities who rejected their families and institutions and made efforts to live independently. This book describes the history of disability movement in Kansai area by following up establishment and development of Osaka Aoi Shiba no Kai movement and examining its spread and settlement which led to the Independent Living Movement of people with severe disabilities.
