■Public Symposium "Ars Vivendi × Medical Philosophy × Bioethics: Visions and Challenges of Theories on Euthanasia"

◆Project Purpose:
This symposium is a sequel of the "Symposium on Life & Death / Death & Life" that was held at the University of Tokyo in September 2009. The purpose of this symposium is to discuss the shared problem consciousness and topics that could not take enough time to argue last time further and further and deepen our understanding on those issues. Concretely, by having dialogues among different academic fields such as ars vivendi, medical philosophy and bioethics, which are different from one another but mutually adjoins or overlaps, we are aiming at overviewing traditional theories on issues of euthanasia and identifying its challenges for the future research and practices. We would like to provide you with informative opportunities of dialogs on Japanese terminal care, issues of people with disabilities or elderly welfare through participants who are highly aware of issues of euthanasia / death with dignity. We appreciate your understanding of the purpose of this symposium in advance.
