◆Purpose
Professor Alain Caillé launched MAUSS (Mouvement anti-utilitariste dans les sciences sociales) in 1980s and has taken its initiative for the last 30 years conducting various research activities. As its name shows that of Marcel Mauss (His main work is Essai sur le don. in 1925], this research moving body is ambitious in that it reconsiders economics from Marxism to modern economics and the whole social science with a view of anti-utilitarianism based on anthropology with its evolving around the concept/practice of "gift". In its initial stage of publishment of MAUSS, Professor Philippe Van Parijs, who was establishing "basic income" theory which gets popularity now, served as a regular contributor.
We would like to listen to Professor Alain Caillé's direct testimony cocnerning the ideal of research moving body MAUSS and its research depolyment for 30 years. Then, with remarks from researchers of its related fields, we would like to discuss the possibility of its alternative in today's world.
