East Asia Forum on Disability Studies 2016 to Meet in September

Research Center for Ars Vivendi of Ritsumeikan University is organizing the 7th East Asia Forum on Disability Studies at our campus in Ibaraki, Osaka on 22 and 23 September 2016.

The topic of the forum is Article 12 (legal capacity) of the CRPD and Adult Guardianship. The forum will be conducted in Korean, Chinese and Japanese.The meeting venue is Osaka Ibaraki Campus (OIC) of Ritsumeikan University.

This forum started in 2010 as an annual bilateral collaboration between Korea and Japan, which hosted the forum every other year in turn. Then in 2014, our Chinese counterparts, such as One Plus One supported by Handicap International, joined us.

Last year, the forum met in Beijing for the first time. This year we are very pleased to welcome disability studies group from Taiwan.

The topics of the past forums include disability identity and politics of difference, disaster and disability, disability discrimination act, disability and treatment, social services and protection of interests of persons with disabilities.
