We, Global COE Program Ars Vivendi, would like to let you know the
following three news.
1) We have translated two articles about our program which appear
in AERA, a Japanese weekly magazine.

2) The Second Workshop with Professor Philippe Van Parijs was held
on January 25.
We posted some pictures on the following website.

We have received the following message from Professor Parijs after
the workshop.
What a wonderful occasion this was!
It is always rewarding for an author to meet people who put a lot
of work into reading, even translating his writings. Moreover, it
is particularly instructive for someone working on language issues
to get feedback in a country with a linguistic environment very
different from those is is most familiar with. My only - but great
- regret was of course that Professor Reiko Goto's accident
deprived me of the great pleasure of seeing her again and
exchanging ideas directly on several matters that interest us both.
This very pleasant and productive encounter was made possible by
impeccable organizers and sharp participants, as well as by a
particularly consciencious and inexhaustible interpreter.
Encounters of this type will be made even more productive when more
Japanese scholars will have acquired a level of proficiency in the
world's lingua franca that will make interpreting redundant or -
who knows? - when I shall have learned your beautiful, yet
difficult language.
3) We have been in the process of publishing a Japanese-version book
of Pogge's World Poverty and Human Rights.
Many students as well as Professor Shin'ya Tateiwa have been
involved in this translation.
We will let you know as soon as it is published.
