Question 1:In order to prevent the spread of new infectious diseases and the revival of older infectious diseases, the, WHO established the "Global Outbreak Alert and Response Network" (GOARN). This network helps prevent the spread of infectious diseases by monitoring the current status of the diseases and responding quickly. Concerning this network, I have two questions. First, did it function properly during the outbreak of SARS and bird flu? Second, was the network able to proceed smoothly from reporting the diseases to responding to them?
Question 2:SARS and bird flue are known worldwide, but there are many other infectious diseases which potentially pose a menace to the world. Among these, there are some infectious diseases such as the group of diseases known as the Neglected Diseases, which are not given high-priority attention because of political or socio-economic factors. My question is how should we tackle those overlooked infectious diseases?
