■GENOMES AND JUSTICE
Hello everyone,

I am pleased to announce the publication of an important document
(available in both English and French) by the Roeher Institute:

GENOMES AND JUSTICE: REFLECTIONS ON A HOLISTIC APPROACH TO GENETIC
RESEARCH, TECHNOLOGY AND DISABILITY

by Inclusion International and The Roeher Institute
(1999-$18 Dollars Canadian)

A follow-up to JUST TECHNOLOGY?, GENOME(S) AND JUSTICE is a timely and
informative document on the ongoing dialogue on genetics and its
applications. It explores the complicated issues of genetic research
and technology and looks at the impact of these developments,
particularly with respect to how they may affect disabled people. It
outlines four principles that provide a framework for evaluating genetic
research and its applications: the Principle of Justice; the Principle
of Non-discrimination; the Principle of Diversity; and the Principle of
Autonomy and Informed Decision-Making.

This framework has been applied by the Roeher Institute and Inclusion
International to evaluate and recommend changes to UNESCO's "Declaration
on the Protection of the Human Genome." GENOME(S) AND JUSTICE is a
guide to these issues, and a discussion of how they emerged through the
evaluation of the UNESCO Declaration.
